Father's Day in Cambridge

Father's Day Meal At Onyx

Father's Day is a time to celebrate the amazing Dads who do so much for us!

It was first celebrated in the US in 1910 after Sonora Smart Dodd campaigned for Father's Day to be officially recognised as a holiday. She was 27 at the time.

In 1909, Sonora was listening to a Mother's Day sermon at her church and decided she wanted to honour her father, and fathers like him. Her father had raised her and her five siblings on his own after the death of her mother. Over the years Father's Day has grown in popularity all around the world.

It was not celebrated in New Zealand until 1969, introduced to complement Mother's Day which was already established here in May 1920.

There are ways to treat the special father figures in your life. Here are our top 3 suggestions ...

1. Personalised Gifts are always popular, cups, key-rings or photos.

In Cambridge we have KJ Designs who make personalised jewellery and keepsakes - take a look for more ideas Click Here>>>

Also Cambridge Photos who can help with mugs, mouse pads and more! Click Here>>>

2. DIY Gifts are always popular too. Handmade cards, posters or scrapbooks of memories.

3. Food or Drink! (We are biased) But this could include a gift basket - handmade or Dante's Fine Foods in Cambridge can make on for you.

Wine or Whiskey - we can suggest Cambridge Fine Wines too.

Or you can cook Dad breakfast, lunch or dinner or treat him to a meal out - we'd love to suggest Onyx! We have a wide range on the menu, so there's something for everyone including gluten-free options. Check out our menu here.
